The Ninja Warrior

As a sword collector i am always interested in the type of swords each collector is interested in. Personally i don’t collect just on type of sword and i only do it because i enjoy it, not to get some sort of money gain out of it.

I must confess that my personal favourites are Japanese swords, especially the samurai swords. Lately i have been interested in Weapons used by Ninja so i started making some research about the mystical warrior and realized that there is not much that is certain about these dark warriors.

Ninja were believed to be assassins, but also sabotage artist and chaos agent. Ninja were in fact specialist in various martial arts, they were masters at using different weapons to bring death, confusion and diversion. Some believe that at one point in history they were the secret police of the shogun.

That being said nothing remain certain when it comes to these dark warriors. One thing that strikes me was that they believe the ninja were using the ninjato sword wich is like the katana but a little bit smaller and without the curve in the blade. The ninjato were carried in a regular katana saya. They did that to hide their ninja identities in public but also to deceive their enemy into thinking that they were carrying a normal sword when in fact they could strike faster due to the smaller size of the ninjato.

The more i learn, the more passionate it gets…let’s just say that the black ninja i had in mind when i was a kid is very far from the real thing…

Where to buy Swords

This may sound a little bit dumb but you can find some real gem in garage sale. Look carefully in your local classified. Before taking your care make sure to call the ones that looks promising.

Auctions: Auctions can sometimes be tricky. The problem with auctions is that the more they are advertised the higher the price of the sword. The worst thing with auctions is that sometimes the bidders get swept up in the competition and spend a lot more than they were willing to spend initially.

Antique Dealers: This is probably the best place to look for when collecting swords. A real antique dealer will make sure your purchase is accurately represented.

Online Stores: Online store are one of my favourite place to look for when searching for a sword. Very often the swords are less expensive online and you can do you own research in the comfort of your home.
